Community of Madrid Awards Recognize Carrier Transicold’s All-Electric, Fully Autonomous Refrigeration Unit

Carrier Transicold  announced its new Vector eCool trailer refrigeration unit received the city of Madrid’s “Community of Madrid Award" in the “efficiency and innovation in refrigerated transport” category. Sponsored by the daily newspaper La Razón, the awards honor entrepreneurship, resilience and innovation of companies in Spain.

Launched in October, the Vector eCool unit is the first fully autonomous, all-electric, engineless refrigerated transport system for semi-trailers. Combining Carrier Transicold's all-electric E-Drive technology with a new state-of-the-art energy recovery and storage system, it converts the kinetic energy generated by the semi-trailer vehicle into electricity, which is then stored in a battery pack to power the refrigeration unit. This loop creates a fully self-sustaining virtuous system that produces no direct carbon dioxide (CO2) or particulate emissions.

Benefits of the Vector eCool unit include:
  • 100% electric unit produces no direct CO2 or particulate emissions.
  • PIEK-compliant with operating noise is below 60 dB(A).
  • Fully rechargeable in four hours when plugged into the electric grid.
  • “We are very honored to receive this award for our new fully electric and autonomous Vector eCool unit, which is helping to address major environmental challenges facing cities,” said Jean-Pascal Vielfaure, Southern European Director, Carrier Transicold. “We are committed to supporting our refrigerated transport customers by providing them with healthy, safe and sustainable solutions.”
