Fowler Welch Plans For The Future With £2M Investment

Leading supply chain expert Fowler Welch has completed a £2m investment programme to develop its major temperature controlled depot in Spalding. The substantial investment includes refurbishment of two stores in the site, the conversion of a derelict brownfield site into an 8,800m² hard standing to park up to 100 trailers, a car park extension and staff welfare facility. Works are already underway and full completion of all development is scheduled for Spring 2018. The refurbishment of the warehouse includes the extension of racking and consolidation capacity with new walls, ceilings and the installation of a one-piece floor. In line with Fowler Welch’s commitment to sustainability, the latest refrigeration and LED lighting has been installed reducing carbon emissions and complying with the latest energy regulations. In addition the latest and most efficient Quadcore wall panels have been integrated to offer the best thermal performance in the industry and improved environmental performance. Following the first company-wide employee survey, feedback around employee ‘down-time’ and wellbeing has been taken into consideration, resulting in the construction of a new ‘Welfare Building’. This 328m² space has been designed to offer members of staff from all areas of the business a space for rest and relaxation during break periods. The space will offer changing rooms for those employees who take advantage for the Cycle to Work scheme, pool tables, a fully equipped rest area and sofas to offer employees a communal area to relax during the workday. Nick Hay, CEO of Fowler Welch says: “During a time of growth which has seen the company increase turnover by 13% to £163M in the last financial year (ending 31st March 2017), and win prestigious contracts with companies such as Winterbotham Darby and Heck, this investment is the latest sign that Fowler Welch is going from strength-to-strength and is continuing to move forward as a leader in the market. He added, “The development of the new welfare building is another investment in our employees, many who have been with the Fowler Welch family for many years. We have listened to suggestions from across the depot of how to improve, responded accordingly and will deliver a modern and well-equipped area to take a load off and catch up with colleagues.”
