2024 Heat Pump Awards Recognize Five Innovative Projects

The 2024 Heat Pump Awards, organized by the European Heat Pump Association (EHPA), have recognized five groundbreaking heat pump projects that showcase the technology's versatility across various climates and building types. Held during EHPA’s annual Heat Pump Forum in Brussels, this 14th edition of the awards honored exceptional projects in the categories of City, Building, Industry, Innovation, and People’s Choice.

Winners of the 2024 Heat Pump Awards:

  1. Heat Pump City of the Year Award
Project: Heat pump integration into district heating and cooling network for excess heat utilization
    Location: Turku, Finland
This project connects district heating and cooling networks, capturing and redistributing excess heat to create a positive energy district.

  2. DecarBuilding Award
Project: HAPPENING - Retrofitting multi-family buildings in Pasaia, Spain
The project improves the efficiency of heat pumps in existing buildings through a cascade heat pump system, optimizing performance in mild climates.

  3. DecarbIndustry Award
Project: FRIGG - Industrial steam-producing heat pump for the feed industry
    Location: Norway
This ammonia-based heat pump recovers heat to produce steam for industrial processes, achieving a COP of over 3.0.

  4. Lighthouse Heat Pump Award
Project: DC Heat Pumps with Cross Connected PV
    Location: Rosie Hospital, Cambridge, UK
This system integrates solar energy and DC power to provide heating, cooling, and hot water for a hospital.

  5. People’s Choice Award
    Project: Organon Thermal Management System
    Location: Oss, Netherlands
Organon, a pharmaceutical company, aims for climate neutrality by integrating high-efficiency heat pumps into its operations.
