U.S. shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps increased by 6.4 percent in April 2025, according to the latest data from the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI). A total of 796,279 units were shipped, up from 748,688 units in April 2024.
Air conditioner shipments declined by 2.8 percent year-on-year, totaling 422,275 units in April 2025 compared to 434,239 units a year earlier. In contrast, shipments of air-source heat pumps rose sharply by 18.9 percent, reaching 374,004 units, compared to 314,449 units in April 2024.
For the year-to-date through April, combined shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps increased by 5.5 percent to 2,874,243 units, up from 2,724,197 units during the same period in 2024.
Central air conditioner shipments for the first four months of 2025 totaled 1,548,465 units, marking a 1.5 percent increase over the 1,525,824 units shipped during the same period in 2024. Heat pump shipments for the same period reached 1,325,778 units, an increase of 10.6 percent compared to 1,198,373 units in 2024.
