ARC Tackles Technician Shortage in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning
The Australian Refrigeration Council (ARC) is addressing a shortage of skilled technicians in the refrigeration and air conditioning (RAC) industry, crucial to Australia's infrastructure. With over 43,000 skilled technicians and more than 8,700 trainees, the sector is among the largest and highest-paid trades, with median weekly earnings around AU$2,019.

A recent increase of 15% in vapour compression-driven equipment since 2016 brings over 62 million units into play, accounting for up to 24% of the nation's electricity consumption. This highlights the industry's importance and recent efforts have reduced climate emissions from RAC equipment by 10% since 2016.

ARC is expanding training opportunities and providing resources to address the skills shortage and promote workforce development. Its initiatives aim to equip the RAC sector to meet rising demands for energy efficiency and sustainability.

ARC, the chief licensing and compliance authority, upholds safety and environmental standards, supporting businesses and promoting workforce development in the RAC industry.
