The Global Cold Chain Alliance (GCCA) successfully hosted its 20th European Cold Chain Conference, 8-10 March 2017 in Brussels. The conference welcomed nearly 100 professionals from the warehousing, construction and transportation branches of the cold chain industry, with 17 countries represented. Rated as a key venue for all cold chain stakeholders, the GCCA European Cold Chain Conference featured plenary sessions, breakout education presentations, networking events and a table top exhibition.
“This conference was a perfect example of our industry’s global presence and influence,” GCCA President and CEO Corey Rosenbusch said. “I was impressed by the high educational value our speakers brought to the conference as well as the quality of discussions I overheard between attendees during the breaks. GCCA takes great pride in bringing the cold chain together through events such as this around the world.”
Designed to address the typical issues of each segment of the profession, this year’s programme covered topics such as global cold chain challenges and opportunities; sustainability and reducing food loss; regulatory impacts on the industry; automation in the retail fresh and frozen supply chain; and selecting the best cooling system. Business and industry speakers from Europe and around the globe brought their expertise to the conference making for a diverse set of speakers to the programme.
The latest technologies, solutions, and products and services from the most respected names in the industry were on display as the expo generated valuable opportunities for suppliers to meet qualified business contacts and decision-makers in attendance. The additional networking events and functions across the conference created the ideal atmosphere to foster business development.
“We were thrilled to have cold chain executives from 17 different countries in attendance,” GCCA Europe Director Julie Hanson said. “The valuable networking at the conference and volume of products and services exchanged at the expo support the growth that the European cold chain has seen in recent years.”
Following the education programme on Friday 10 March, Conference attendees toured Colruyt’s food retail facility in Halle. The tour included a demonstration of Colruyt’s fully-automated order-picking robots in fresh environment; ‘Hybrid -25°C’ Savoye order picking shuttles in deep freeze environment; and a patented liquid-ice application for carts assuring high quality in the supply chain and multi-temperature loads in a standard trailer.
