Eurovent and AMCA Europe Release Joint Recommendation on Performance Tests for Large Axial Fans

Eurovent and AMCA Europe have announced the release of the first edition of Eurovent Recommendation 1/14, a document addressing performance tests for very large axial fans in the context of Ecodesign requirements. The Recommendation offers a detailed analysis of the challenges associated with testing these fans and proposes a practical solution to ensure reproducible and consistent results.

The Recommendation was developed collaboratively by the Eurovent Product Group ‘Fan Technology’ (PG-FANS) and members of AMCA Europe. It aims to fill a gap in current standards by providing a code of good practice for performance measurement. According to the document, the lack of internationally recognized standards has complicated efforts to evaluate the efficiency of very large axial fans.

“The Ecodesign Regulation for fans specifies minimum efficiency levels for fans with an electrical input power ranging from 125 Watts to 500 kW. However, the method for determining efficiency is not described in the regulation,” explained Uwe Sigloch, Chairperson of the Eurovent Product Group ‘Fan Technology.’ He added, “Currently, there are no internationally recognised standards for performance measurement of very large axial fans. To address this, Eurovent has formulated a recommendation for performance measurement of very large fans. This recommendation leads to reproducible values and establishes a level playing field for all manufacturers placing such kind of fans on the European market.”

The collaboration with AMCA Europe played a key role in the development of the Recommendation. Harald Rudelgass, Chair of the AMCA Europe Advocacy Committee, commented, “We are pleased to release the first joint statement by AMCA Europe and the Eurovent Product Group Fan Technology. The collaboration between our two associations has proven to be highly successful, allowing us to reach a broad spectrum of experts. We view this cooperation as an excellent example of how we can continue to work successfully together and further strengthen our partnership in the future.”

The Eurovent Recommendation 1/14 document can be downloaded free of charge from the Eurovent website.

Eurovent’s PG-FANS represents more than 20 European manufacturers of fans, industrial fans, fan units, and related components. AMCA Europe is part of AMCA International, a non-profit organization of manufacturers involved in airflow and air-system components. Both associations share a commitment to advancing efficiency and performance standards within the industry.
