Hoshizaki Corporation is set to convert all standard commercial refrigerator models for the Japanese market to natural refrigerants by the end of 2024. The company, known for pioneering the shift from hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) to environmentally friendly options, will introduce 364 new models featuring natural refrigerants. These include 251 upright and 113 undercounter models. Shipments will begin in mid-December, supported by a nationwide sales network.

Leading the Refrigerant Transition

Hoshizaki has been at the forefront of integrating natural refrigerants, which are naturally occurring substances, into commercial cooling equipment. The company first launched these products internationally in 2009 and expanded to domestic made-to-order models in Japan by August 2022, later adding products in various price ranges by May 2023. This transition provides Hoshizaki with Japan’s largest lineup of natural refrigerant-based commercial refrigerators, enhancing customer choice.

The industry trend towards natural refrigerants spans domestic and global markets, with usage growing in domestic refrigerators and ice machines worldwide. Hoshizaki’s commitment as a global entity will further aid in reducing environmental impacts by promoting such transitions.

Significant Reduction in Global Warming Impact

Switching to natural refrigerants significantly decreases the global warming impact compared to models using HFCs. By transitioning to these refrigerants, Hoshizaki aims to substantially cut greenhouse gas emissions across the product lifecycle, reducing the environmental impact of CFCs, HCFCs, and HFCs traditionally used in cooling products.

Updated Exterior Design for Hoshizaki's New Models

  • Hoshizaki has redesigned the door handles of its refrigerators, changing them from a curved to a more rectilinear shape, enhancing the grip area for smoother door operation.
  • The temperature display panels have been refined, featuring sharpened designs and LCD displays that show the operating status of the products.
