Mayekawa Celebrates 100th Anniversary with New Initiatives

MAYEKAWA MFG. CO., LTD. is celebrating its 100th anniversary, a significant milestone in the company's history. The company expressed its sincere gratitude to its customers, partners, and the local community for their support throughout the years.

To commemorate this occasion, Mayekawa has introduced a special anniversary logo, which will be used throughout 2024. This logo symbolizes the company's dedication to innovation and excellence as it looks ahead to the next 100 years.

Founded in 1924 by Kisaku Maekawa in Tokyo, Mayekawa started its journey with ice manufacturing and cold storage businesses. Over the decades, the company has continually evolved, identifying itself within the context of the environment it operates in and solving various industry challenges through collaborative creation.

Key Milestones in Mayekawa's History:

  • 1930s: Initiation of ice making and cold storage business.
  • 1934: Production of industrial vertical low-speed reciprocating compressors began.
  • 1937: Corporate name changed to Mayekawa Manufacturing Co., Ltd.
  • 1958: Development of high-speed multi-cylinder single-stage and two-stage reciprocating compressors.
  • 1960s: Introduction of fully automatic control systems for large-scale cold storage and the first ammonia liquid pump recirculation refrigeration system in Japan.
  • 1970: Establishment of Moriya Plant, Japan, and the first air-conditioning screw heat pump system installation.
  • 1980s: Expansion into international markets with subsidiaries in the USA, Brazil, and Canada, among others.
  • 1990s: Introduction of screw compressors and technological advancements in freezers and automated meat processing machines.
  • 2000s: Development of cooling systems using natural refrigerants and significant contributions to the industrial and refrigeration fields with innovative technologies.
Mayekawa has consistently expanded its global presence, with subsidiaries and representative offices established across continents, including North America, South America, Europe, Asia, and Africa. The company's commitment to sustainability is reflected in its adoption of the "Natural Five" refrigerants: ammonia, carbon dioxide (CO2), air, water, and hydrocarbons (HC).
