RSES Releases Fourth Edition of Hydrocarbon Refrigerants Study Guide and eLearning Course

RSES has introduced the fourth edition of its Hydrocarbon Refrigerants study guide, exam, and eLearning course. These resources aim to support HVACR professionals in safely servicing and maintaining systems that use flammable refrigerants approved under the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Significant New Alternatives Policy (SNAP) program.

The 94-page study guide and accompanying eLearning course cover the latest best practices for various refrigerants, including:

HC R-290 (propane)
HC R-600a (isobutane)
HC R-441A (a blend)
HC R-170 (ethane)
HFC R-32 (difluoromethane)
HFC R-454B

Both the study guide and eLearning course are divided into key sections, such as refrigerant regulations and standards, safety procedures, system servicing, compressor maintenance, leak testing, evacuation techniques, and refrigerant handling.

The fourth edition features an expanded appendix, including updated EPA regulations as of July 2024, charge size tables, temperature-pressure charts for hydrocarbons, R-32, and R-454B, as well as refrigerant properties and conversion tables.

The materials, available in book, eBook, and online course formats, can be purchased through the RSES online store. HVACR professionals who successfully pass the online exam receive a certificate of completion, which provides 8 NATE CEHs (Continuing Education Hours) or 0.8 CEUs (Continuing Education Units). This certification can enhance professional qualifications and potentially reduce liability.
