Klima-Therm launches Rhoss TurboPOWERchillers in HFO and HFC refrigerant options

Klima-Therm has introduced a new range of Rhoss high efficiency air-cooled chillers based on the Turbocor magnetic levitating compressor, available in both HFO and HFC refrigerant options. The TurboPOWER range, available on short-lead time of just six weeks, covers capacities from 300 to 1100 kW on HFC R134a, and an eco-version on HFO 1234ze refrigerant in capacities from 323.2 to 948.6 kW.

The chillers areequipped with up to three oil-less Turbocor compressors, and based on one or two cooling circuits, depending on size. A new Rhoss Integrated Sequencer (RIS)enables up to four chillers to bemulti-plexed, giving overarching intelligent control, optimising performance and minimising energy consumption. TurboPOWER chillers can be equipped with aninnovativeinverter-controlled pump which allows systems to be setup with variable primary flow, simplifying commissioning and further reducing energy costs. HFC refrigerant models have ESEERsof up to 5.63, putting them above Eurovent Class A for energy efficiency, while HFO options perform even better, with ESEERsof up to 5.66. Energy performance isassisted by the use of micro-channel heat exchangers on the air-side, which also enable refrigerant charge to be reduced by 30% compared withconventional heat exchangers. Water-side heat exchangers areof aflooded shell and tube design, complete with closed cell polyurethane foam insulation, water flow differential pressure switch and Victaulic fittings. TurboPOWER chillers are available in three versions: B is a Basic model, which still achieves efficiency class A, and includes a sound-proofed compressor compartment; T is a high-efficiency version, achieving above class A, also equipped with a sound-proofed compressor enclosure; and Q is a super-quiet version, with enhanced acoustic attenuation and variable-speed EC fans. The chillers can be equipped with a factory-fitted integral refrigerant leak detection system to satisfy the requirements of the F-Gas Regulation in relation to static leak monitoring. The roll-out follows installation of the world’s first TurboPOWER chiller at a John Lewis Partnership outlet in London’s Sloane Square earlier this year, supplied by Klima-Therm. The 2MW cooling capacity installation replaced two aging roof-top mounted conventional chillers that had come to the end of their working life.

Tim Mitchell, Klima-Therm sales director, says: “The new TurboPOWER range offers end users a very flexible choice, in terms of specification and competitive pricing. Since the technology has been proven, the market for compact centrifugal compressor-based chillers has become increasingly competitive. The entry of a respected manufacturer such as Rhoss into this sector provides greater choice and can only be good for buyers. And the short lead-time of just seven weeks gives customers an important edge on fast-track projects.”

He added: “Turbocor compressors are inherently quiet in operation, but with the enhanced acoustic attenuation on the Q version, coupled with variable speed fans, it offers exceptionally quiet performance, ideal for sensitive projects in city centre locations, such as residential developments, hospitals and universities.

“We are also particularly pleased to have an HFO-based version, which enables clients with environmental concerns or strict corporate CSR policies to effectively future-proof their installations against future changes in the legal framework.”
