Kaltra developed microchannel condenser coils for the refrigerated containers

Kaltra developed special series of microchannel condenser coils tailored for the most challenging refrigeration applications in reliability – refrigerated containers and trailers.

Aluminum alloys, surface treatments and thickness of tube walls of these coils have all been specially sourced for application to contribute to system reliability and extended lifespan.

Optionally available e-coating, an immersion paint process that uses electrical current to deposit paint particles to a coil surface, provides microchannel coils with a durable, lasting finish that will stand up to outdoor environments and makes them last longer.

Unique reinforcing elements were developed for higher coil robustness. The use of multiport tubes of reduced widths (12, 16, and 20mm) contributes to significantly less internal volume of the coil and easier coil bending.

Condenser coils are optimized for use with the most popular refrigerants in the reefer industry, including reduced-GWP R513a, R1234yf, and R290 with GWP value of as low as 3.

In sum, the new series of microchannel condensers appears to have considerable merit for reefer container and trailer applications, namely:

  • Immune to galvanic corrosion
  • Offer long service life, particularly in polluted or marine environments
  • Significantly compactor than coils of other types of the same capacity
  • Perfectly suitable for bending
  • Low internal volume reduces system refrigerant charge
  • Lightweight
  • Simpler to clean
  • Easily recyclable
  • For operators, these advantages translate to increase energy and operational efficiency and improved environmental sustainability and system reliability for greater uptime, thus reducing the lifetime cost of ownership.
