2019 GCCA Brasil & ABIAF Cold Chain Symposium

Francisco Moura, ABIAF's president and CEO of SuperFrio, presented updated data on the Brazilian cold storage capacity. He stressed that among the TOP 25 global companies in the sector, three are Brazilian, also discussing the work developed by the Association.

Corey Rosenbusch, CEO of GCCA, provided insight into the great role investment banks have played in the chain. Addressing the structural consolidation of the segment, he highlighted the first company in the sector to go public on the American stock exchange.

Anthony Leo, GCCA Global Board member and CEO of RSL Logistics, said additional services that were not previously part of their operations made it possible to increase profitability. Leo, Pablo Firpo, from Friopuerto Uruguay, and Frederico Barros, from Patria Investimentos, participated in the international panel, which discussed the biggest challenges in each region, the differences in Brazilian reality and the importance of exchanging experiences for best practices.

Cristina Souza and Eduardo Yamashita talked about Retail Trends and Foodservice, and brought an optimistic view on the growth of eating away from home. They highlighted the relevance of the retail market and the new technologies driven by major global companies such as Amazon and Alibaba.

Luciano Alves, from Marfrig, and Fernando Orsi, from BRF, told how they relate to suppliers, the main KPIs monitored by companies, the challenges and solutions. The panel was led by Beto Braga of Martini Meat.

The panel on energy efficiency and types of soft drinks was moderated and sponsored by Danfoss, represented by Edna Tavares. It was attended by experts Sérgio Machado de Godoy, from Mebrafe, and Ricardo César dos Santos from Mayekawa.

Bruna Kassama, from the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA), presented current figures on pork and poultry exports, as well as explaining the process of opening the Chinese market for cold stores.

Some cases have been reported by Claudemir Ribeiro of FM Approvals, Isopaineis certifier, who operates in the market encouraging the effective risk management of these products.

Automation was the theme of Roberto Tedesco of Tedesco Storage Systems. He spoke of the news he is bringing to Brazil in partnership with local manufacturers, which should make the cost of installing the technologies cheaper.

In addition to Danfoss, Tedesco and Mayekawa, the event was also sponsored by Senso Solution, Testo, Guntner, Assist Software and Valfilm.
