Carrier Transicold’s Compressed Natural Gas-Powered Supra Unit Wins the Innovation Award 2019 at SITL Europe

Carrier Transicold’s Supra CNG PIEK certified and multi-temperature truck refrigeration unit has won the Innovation Award 2019 in the transport equipment category presented by SITL (Transport & Logistics Innovation Week). SITL 2019 was held March 26-28 at Parc des Expositions – Paris Porte de Versailles. This is the fourth innovation award for the Supra CNG unit since its launch in 2017, including the Sustainable Innovation Award from Stratégie Logistique and the Trailer Innovation Award 2019 at the IAA Commercial Vehicle Show 2018.

“We are proud to accept the Innovation Award,” said Bertrand Gueguen, president, Truck and Trailer International, Carrier Transicold. “The Supra CNG-powered unit is a sustainable and efficient solution that supports the activities of our customers involved in urban distribution. Our new unit contributes to the energy transition occurring in refrigerated transport, and provides a simple solution to help ease our customers’ daily challenges regarding traffic and air quality regulations in urban areas.”

The Innovation Award is sponsored by SITL, a transport and logistics trade show where the unit is exhibited at the IVECO Stand (Stand L8). The Supra CNG equips the CNG-powered IVECO Stralis NP truck. Based on product innovation, customer and user benefits, development potential, method of development and its societal and environmental benefits, the CNG-powered Supra refrigeration unit beat out all others, as judged by a jury of industry experts and professionals.

The sustainable Supra CNG solution helps to significantly reduce emissions while increasing operational efficiencies. Compared to traditional compression ignition diesel engines, overall benefits include:

  • Up to 95 per cent reduction in particle emissions
  • Up to 70 per cent reduction in nitrogen oxide emissions
  • Up to 20 per cent reduction in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions
  • Reduction of noise – PIEK-certified unit (emitting less than 60 dB(A))
  • Reduction of vibrations, odors and smoke, improving operating conditions for the driver and the communities they serve
  • Possibility of using biogas made of organic waste, further reducing CO2 emissions

Designed to use a single fuel source for both the engine on a CNG-powered truck and the refrigeration unit, the Supra CNG unit requires just a single refill point for both, which can save time and money and help increase operator productivity. The Supra CNG unit is ideal for urban distribution, offering fresh and frozen multi-temperature applications in up to three compartments. Fitted with an independent tank for the natural gas engine of the refrigeration unit, the CNG-powered unit maintains cold chain integrity, allowing for full autonomy of the refrigeration unit even when the truck is idling or stops.
