Copeland Announces US$60 million Investment to Boost Manufacturing and R&D in India

Copeland, a global leader in sustainable climate solutions, has announced a ₹500 crore (US$60 million) investment in India, aimed at expanding its manufacturing capacity and accelerating climate innovation. This strategic move aligns with India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, which aims to boost local manufacturing, support global demand, and drive innovation in sustainable climate solutions.

The investment will be used to expand Copeland’s manufacturing facility in Atit, Maharashtra, and construct a new global R&D center in Pune, Maharashtra. These investments will enhance existing engineering capabilities, increase production capacity of Copeland’s compression solutions, and promote innovation in sustainable heating, cooling, refrigeration, and industrial solutions.

The expanded facilities in India will include an advanced scroll compressor line intended for both domestic use and Copeland’s key international markets in the region. The Pune manufacturing facility will grow by an additional 7,350 square meters over the next five years, while the new 15,000 square meter R&D center will focus on advancing Copeland’s climate solutions.

"India is an important growth market for Copeland, and this expansion reaffirms our commitment to both the India market and innovation," said Ross B. Shuster, Chief Executive Officer of Copeland. "These planned investments will enable us to increase production capacity and reduce lead times for our customers in the region while supporting India's energy and environmental goals."

The addition of Copeland’s award-winning scroll compressors to the manufacturing lineup in India will advance cooling and refrigeration technology for local customers. The expanded R&D investments will significantly contribute to a sustainable and innovative future, supporting global megatrends such as the energy transition through electrification of heating demand, adoption of low-GWP and natural refrigerants, and efficient, sustainable cold chains to safeguard perishable food and medical products.

"Copeland is committed to serving our customers in India and the region by helping them address the demand for sustainable solutions and world-class quality," said Sandeep Gupta, Vice President & Managing Director of Copeland India. "These investments will establish India as a leading scroll compressor manufacturing and innovation hub, furthering India’s economic and sustainable future and supporting the Prime Minister’s vision of ‘Make in India’."
