Eurovent publishes new guidance on AHU controls under revised EPBD

Eurovent has issued a new Recommendation on air handling unit (AHU) controls in building automation, aimed at supporting compliance with the revised EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD), Directive 2024/1275.

The document outlines how integrated AHU control systems can support energy monitoring, optimisation, and regulatory compliance in a technically and economically feasible manner. It specifically addresses requirements under Article 13(10) of the Directive and is intended to assist Member States in interpreting the term “technically and economically feasible application” during national transposition.

The Recommendation is designed to help policymakers, manufacturers, designers, and building operators adopt cost-effective solutions that meet EU energy efficiency and indoor air quality goals.

Igor Sikonczyk, Technical and Regulatory Affairs Manager at Eurovent and Secretary of the Product Group ‘Air Handling Units’ (PG-AHU), said: “With the revised EPBD setting ambitious requirements for building automation, the Eurovent Recommendation 6/20 provides clear, practical guidance on how air handling unit control systems can play a central role in delivering both energy efficiency and healthy indoor environments in Europe’s buildings.”

The document is available for free download on the Eurovent website.
