China Refrigeration Market Development in 2020

On April 8, 2021, BSRIA and the Chinese Association of Refrigeration jointly released the "2020 China Refrigeration Industry Development Report" at the Shanghai Refrigeration Exhibition. The report reviews the market in 2020 and predicts future market development.

China's cold chain logistics industry is developing rapidly. Compressors, as the core part of refrigeration equipment, also maintains a high market growth. However, there are great differences in the development of different types of refrigeration compressors. Understanding these differences will help compressor and condensing unit (CDU) manufacturers to better grasp future market opportunities, find their own positioning, and better serve their target clients.

From the perspective of different compressor types, the growth rate of the hermetic reciprocating compressor market in 2020 is considerable year-on-year, and the growth rate is significantly higher than that of last year. The overseas pandemic became out of control in the second half of last year. Many overseas refrigerator factories could not operate normally, and a large number of orders returned to China. The growth of export demand for refrigerators boosted the sales of the hermetic reciprocating compressor in China.

The scroll compressor market grew year-on-year in 2020. Once the pandemic was under control, China increased efforts to build medical cold rooms, vaccine cold room, and the renovation and expansion of the CDC, which boosted market growth.

The semi-hermetic reciprocating compressor market also grew in 2020. Since the second half of 2020, the government has increased supervision and investment in the cold chain logistics industry, driving the construction of low and medium temperature cold rooms. In addition, many semi-hermetic reciprocating compressor manufacturers began to promote their products by lowering prices in the second half of the year.

After the pandemic, the government paid more attention to food and drug safety issues, increased investment in all aspects of the industry, and the refrigeration compressor market has achieved better development than in previous years.
