UNEP OzonAction Releases Four Cold Chain Technology Briefs

UNEP OzonAction has released four Cold Chain Technology Briefs in English covering refrigeration technologies and challenges across several parts of the global cold chain.

The four briefs are titled Cold Chain Technology Brief – Commercial, Professional, and Domestic Refrigeration; Cold Chain Technology Brief – Fishing Vessel Applications; Cold Chain Technology Brief – Walk-in Cold Rooms in Article 5 Countries; and Cold Chain Technology Brief – Road Refrigerated Transport in Hot Climates.

UN Environment Programme is an Implementing Agency of the Multilateral Fund for the Implementation of the Montreal Protocol. OzonAction is part of UN Environment Programme’s Law Division and serves 147 developing countries through the Compliance Assistance Programme.

The brief on commercial, professional and domestic refrigeration reviews the role and challenges of these applications within the global cold chain. The fishing vessel applications brief outlines existing refrigeration technologies used on fishing vessels, addresses the environmental impacts of refrigerants and introduces environmentally friendly and energy-efficient technologies.

The walk-in cold rooms brief covers existing WICR technologies, refrigerants and foam blowing agents, along with their environmental impact, and addresses affordability, sustainable business models, access to equipment and skills in Article 5 countries. The road refrigerated transport brief focuses on hot climates and highlights the need to consider local boundaries when adopting transport refrigeration technologies.
