The facility, four times larger than Sunswap's previous premises, will advance Endurance development, new technology and aftermarket services.

Sunswap opens UK Technology Centre for electric refrigeration

Sunswap opened its new UK Technology Centre to fleet operators, industry partners and government officials on 7 July. The British electric transport refrigeration manufacturer said the facility will support further development of its Endurance system, next-generation refrigeration technology and aftermarket services.

The centre is four times the size of Sunswap’s previous premises. The company said its operations have grown around 200-fold since it was founded in the UK in 2020.

During the Open Day, Sunswap outlined plans to develop aftermarket services that identify problems before breakdowns occur and reduce fleet downtime. Operators using Endurance, including DFDS, Noble Foods, Voltloader and Bannister Transport, also discussed their experience with the electric refrigeration system.

Grant Turner, managing director of Sunswap distributor Protran Solutions in Australia, said: “The big diesel manufacturers were trying to bolt battery technology onto old designs, and customers weren’t interested. Sunswap was different, this was designed from the ground up. We’ve validated it in 43 degree heat and the harshest conditions Australia can throw at it, and it’s outperformed. We’ve now placed an order for 100 Endurance units.”

Michael Lowe, CEO of Sunswap, said: “We’ve grown around 200 times since we started Sunswap. This Technology Centre gives us the room to build at the scale the industry now expects from us, and to keep pushing Endurance further.”
