LG launches AI-powered VRF system for US commercial buildings

LG Electronics USA has introduced the LG Multi V i, an all-electric Heat Recovery Heat Pump Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) system for commercial applications in the United States. Designed to address energy efficiency and intelligent climate control, the new system incorporates artificial intelligence and a proprietary LG Neural Engine.

The Multi V i system uses onboard AI-driven controls to monitor environmental factors such as temperature, occupancy and humidity. It also tracks energy consumption and issues alerts before usage thresholds are exceeded, supporting efficient facility management and comfort optimization.

According to LG Electronics USA Senior Director of Sales - Applied, Doug Bougher, “The LG Multi V i delivers these essential elements, equipping building owners with smarter operations that proactively adapt to the environment. This results in more granular control, reduced operational costs and a forward-looking climate control platform.”

Compared to the previous-generation Multi V 5, the Multi V i offers up to a 28.3 percent improvement in Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER). It uses low-GWP R-32 refrigerant with a reduced charge, contributing to a lower environmental impact.

The unit is engineered for reliable operation in extreme outdoor conditions, from -22°F to 126°F (-30°C to 52°C), and supports zoning with independent temperature control. It features a compact design with a four-sided heat exchanger, offering up to 22 tons of capacity in a single frame. Typical sound levels range from approximately 50 to 70 dB(A).

Additional features include load and sound management, auto-tuning, remote firmware updates, and compressor balancing, aimed at reducing maintenance and service requirements.
