Tecumseh presented at Chillventa as a number of new innovative high efficiency products that are approved for use with eco-friendly refrigerants.
Some completely new Compressor Series was launched during the trade show along with “Next Generation” compressors.
Condensing units was also a major focus for Tecumseh, with the newly available multi-cylinder range delivering higher efficiencies in a more compact footprint.
Tecumseh displayed some advanced systems, such as a Heat Pump system for Sanitary Water Heater applications, an Eco-Friendly Mini Chiller for convenience store refrigeration and a Plug-In system for self-contained refrigeration equipment. A new line of unit coolers will also be introduced.
Regarding F-Gas compliance, nearly all of Tecumseh’s commercial refrigeration compressors and condensing units are now approved for use with refrigerants R452A and R449A. Tecumseh is continuing to test and evaluate eco-friendly refrigerants with a particular focus on both performance and compressor reliability.
AK2 Series Commercial Refrigeration Compressor Delivers “Best in Class” Efficiency
Designed to deliver “best in class” efficiency while at the same time significantly reducing sound levels, Tecumseh’s new AK
2 commercial refrigeration compressor is already attracting high customer interest. While the AK
2 borrows its name from Tecumseh’s popular AK series compressor, there is really nothing about the AK
2 that is the same. From the acoustically shaped housing to the refrigerant handling system and the mechanical pump kit and motor, the AK
2 has been designed to deliver high performance without sacrificing Tecumseh’s industry known reputation for reliability.
The AK
2 has a capacity range from ½ to 1-1/4 HP and an expanded evaporating temperature range from -15°C to +15°C (+5°F to +59°F). In addition, the AK
2 is optimized for use with eco-friendly refrigerants R290 (Propane) and R1234yf, as well as the newly released U.S. EPA SNAP Approved refrigerant R513A. Traditional refrigerants R134a and R404A are supported by the AK
2.

2 R290 compressor models deliver efficiencies as high as 1.9 COP (6.4 EER) and low temperature models are reaching 1.47 COP (5.0 EER) levels.

2 is one of the quietest commercial refrigeration compressors produced to-date with sound power levels as low as 55 dBA. Customer engineering samples are available upon request.
TC Series Compressor Provides Performance Improvement for Beverage Coolers and Commercial Freezers
In continuation of Tecumseh’s plans to renew its commercial refrigeration compressor offering, we are pleased to announce the availability of the TC Series compressor. Optimized for use with eco-friendly hydrocarbon refrigerants R290 (propane) and R600a (isobutane), the TC compressor delivers an efficiency up to 6.1 EER (1.78 COP). The TC’s high efficiency, combined with its compact size, makes it a perfect choice for beverage cooler and small commercial freezer applications where the need for energy improvement will continue. The TC series compressor also provides improved efficiency with traditional HFC refrigerant R134a.
The TC series has a cooling capacity of 88 to 440 W (300 to 1500 Btuh) for low temperature applications and from 586 to 1172 W (2000 to 4000 Btuh) for medium/high temperature applications. The compressor’s dual rating point allows a given model to be applied to both low and medium temperature or, medium and high temperature applications, thereby significantly reducing the number of compressor models required by an equipment manufacturer. The TC has been tested and approved by safety agencies UL (USA), VDE, SGS (Brazil) and IRAM (Argentina).
Commercial refrigeration equipment manufacturers in North and South America, Europe, India and Asia have been actively testing the TC series compressor and are reporting an improvement in efficiency ranging from 20% to 40%. Low temperature R290 models ranging in capacity from 205 to 293 W (700 to 1000 Btuh), as well as low/medium R290 temperature models ranging from 88 to 440 W (300 to 1500 Btuh) are readily available for customer application testing. Additional compressor models are under development with the entire product offering being available by December 2016.
VA Series Variable Speed Compressor
Delivers High Efficiency for Household Refrigerators
Leveraging over 20 years’ experience in variable speed technology, Tecumseh is pleased to announce the launch of the VA Series Compressor and Controller. Designed for household refrigerators and freezers, the VA series has a cooling capacity from 30 to 266 W (102 to 908 Btuh) and delivers an energy efficiency ratio up to 6.2 EER (1.82 COP). The VA series compressor is optimized for eco-friendly refrigerant R600a but was also designed to support refrigerant R134a.
Energy efficiency has become a common driver across the globe for large home appliances and other cooling equipment. While single-speed compressors continue to deliver high levels of efficiency, nothing compares to the overall efficiency of a variable speed compressor. This is mainly because the compressor’s cooling capacity can be controlled by speed and linked directly to the appliance’s cooling load requirement. Annual energy savings of a single speed vs. a variable speed compressor can be as high as 40% with typically cost savings ranging from 15% to 20%.
The VA series controller uses proprietary hardware and software to vary the speed of the compressor. The compressor and controller are continuously communicating and making the necessary adjustments to both optimize energy savings and to insure reliable compressor operation. In addition to energy savings, the VA series includes power conditioning electronics that protects the compressor from extreme fluctuations in power including, voltage spikes. This eliminates the need for additional devices and results in a more reliable compressor and refrigeration system. Another advantage of the VA series is its ability to minimize temperature swings, resulting in a stable temperature inside the cabinet and longer food life.

Tecumseh Makes The Buzz At Chillventa With Advanced Systems Concepts
Following the path of Chillventa 2012 and 2014 edition, Tecumseh presents some concepts at Chillventa.
The company defines a concept as “an innovative solution presented to gain customer feedback, prior to potential commercialization”.
In 2012, a SILENSYS with Inverter was presented, this is now a full range is included in overall SILENSYS offer.
On the same way in 2014, Tecumseh was displaying a Water Chiller and Sanitary Water Heater concepts. Now, this evaporating unit for heat pumps is commercialized to several European manufacturers, and Tecumseh is willing to develop further models with new partners.
Based on feedback received at Chillventa 2014, the Water Chiller concept has been further developed, from the product idea to become a real prototype. After selection and qualification of components, the system control operation of the product has been optimized by Tecumseh team. The plan is to have prototypes tested in the field starting from the end of 2016.
During Chillventa 2016, in addition to a Sanitary Water Heater and an Eco-friendly Mini Chiller for Refrigeration designed in France, a Complete Refrigeration System Plug and Cool currently produced in Tecumseh in Brazil is presented. In addition, an Evaporator commercialized by Tecumseh Malaysian branch will be presented. The objective for the company, is to complement its product offer to move towards to more added value systems.

Tecumseh Leads the Industry in F-Gas Compliance
Tecumseh Position Includes Approvals for HC and HFO Refrigerants and Non-Flammable Solutions.
In follow-up to the document that Tecumseh issued in January 2016 regarding recommended refrigerants, the company has continued to test various low GWP refrigerant options with the objective of determining suitable replacements for R404A and R134a.
Tecumseh Approvals and Recommendations
In accordance with F-Gas regulations, Tecumseh compressors and condensing units are now approved for use with refrigerants R290 (propane), R452A, R449A and R1234yf. However, due to the high discharge temperatures associated with R449A, especially in Low Temperature applications, customer must strictly follow the follow the guidelines outlined in Tecumseh publication no. TG-001-USA.
Nearly two (2) years of testing has been devoted to the new refrigerants, insuring that product reliability and performance are in strict accordance with our standards. Our dedicated staff of engineers and application specialists are available to assist you with F-Gas compliance.
Multi-Refrigerant Compressors for Distribution
In order to assist Europe-based Authorized Wholesalers with the refrigerant transition, Tecumseh is introducing a new optimised compressor range. Tecumseh’s new AJ², FH, and AG “
X” Series commercial refrigeration compressors are optimized for use with refrigerants R134a, R404A, R452A and R513A. One (1) compressor model will be able to handle these refrigerants.
This offer will be available beginning January 1, 2017 for Europe-based Tecumseh Authorized Wholesalers.

Tecumseh Continues to Invest in Long-Term Refrigerant Solutions
Tecumseh is continuing to devote resources in evaluating its products for use with low GWP refrigerants including, the determination of a sustainable long-term solution. We are also continuing to evaluate other interim solutions for R404A and R134a where there are opportunities to deliver higher compressor efficiencies without sacrificing product reliability.
Tecumseh’s new TC, AE², AK
2, and AJ² series commercial refrigeration compressors are optimized for use with eco-friendly R290 (Propane) refrigerant. Some AE² models and the new AJ² range are optimized for use with HFO refrigerant R1234yf. The entire range of Tecumseh fractional HP compressors is compatible with R134a. The company’s new VA and TC series compressors are also optimised for refrigerant R600a (Isobutane). R600a is widely used today in household refrigerators and freezers.
All Tecumseh “Next Generation” commercial refrigeration compressors are being designed for use with the best available eco-friendly refrigerants.
Tecumseh has the interest of its customers and the environment in mind by promoting eco-friendly refrigerants that don’t have an adverse effect on product reliability. Another key objective is to limit the number of medium term refrigerants that can work across our product range and within commercial refrigeration operating temperatures. Product Selection Software Up-To-Date And Better Than Ever
The key selection tool for Tecumseh’s European product offering has been updated to include
F-Gas compliant refrigerants and enhanced functions that assist in determining the right product.
Available in seven (7) languages, the V4.2 Selection Software allows engineers and installers to select the right product based on cooling capacity and operating conditions.
Fine-Tuned Selection based on Customer Criteria
Criteria such as product type, compressor technology, application, cooling capacity, voltage, refrigerant, running pressure, return gas temperature, useful superheat and sub-cooling can be used to fine-tune product selection. Industry standard operating conditions such as EN, ARI, CECOMAF or customized conditions, are also part of the available criteria.
Product Related Technical Data Easily Accessible and Collectable
For each compressor or condensing unit model, a whole host of data is available from the Selection Software including, performance technical data, acoustic spectrum, electrical diagram, implementation drawings, installation instructions, picture, and 3D models. In addition, the technical data is immediately exportable under Open Office and Excel.
F-Gas Compliant Refrigerants
Refrigerants R452A and R449A have been added to the selection Software along with characteristics associated with their performance including temperature glide and, mid and dew temperature. This provides an accurate product selection and system component optimization.
Condensing Unit Performance Report
Newly available is a Product Performance Report for condensing units. The report includes COP (Coefficient of Efficiency), SEPR (Seasonal Efficiency Performance Related), operating temperatures, declared and absorbed cooling capacity and annual electric consumption.
