Americold Realty Trust has broken ground on a new cold storage facility at Port Saint John, New Brunswick. This marks the company’s first import-export hub in Canada and its sixth facility in the country.
The development leverages partnerships with DP World for maritime logistics and Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) for rail services. The announcement was made during Port Saint John’s Port Days event, with provincial and local leaders joining Americold executives at the ceremony.
Americold plans to invest between $75 and $80 million to build the facility, which will provide approximately 22,000 pallet positions—equivalent to more than 800 full truckloads of temperature-controlled goods. The hub is intended to support trade between Central and Eastern Canada and markets in Europe, South America, and the Asia-Pacific region.
Opportunities NB will provide up to $1.01 million [approx. USD 740,000] through a payroll rebate to support the creation of up to 100 jobs by the end of 2029. The project is projected to contribute up to $37 million [approx. USD 27.1 million] in direct provincial GDP.
“This Port Saint John facility builds on the unique ecosystem that CPKC and Americold are creating to provide our customers an unrivaled cold chain across Canada, the United States, and Mexico,” said Keith Creel, President and CEO of CPKC.
The facility is expected to be operational in 2026.
