CO2 transcritical cold storage facility to open in Northern Ireland

The 52,000 sq. ft. (4,831 m2) cold store in County Armagh is expected to create 50 jobs by 2020.

According to Irish News (a Northern Ireland-based newspaper), Derry Refrigerated Transport has started construction on a 52,000 sq.ft. (4,831 m2) cold store facility using CO2 refrigeration in County Armagh, UK.
The venture, which will be called the Carn Coldstore, is expected to create 50 jobs in Armagh by 2020 and cost £9m (€10m).
The cold storage and freezer facility is set to use CO2 transcritical refrigeration equipment provided by local firm Cross Refrigeration, according to Irish News. To reduce the environmental footprint further, the site will harvest rainwater.
“It's a substantial investment, and one we are putting to good use with advanced equipment that can deliver real-long term savings to us and our customers," said Patrick Derry, managing director, Derry Refrigerated Transport.
First Trust Bank (a Northern Irish bank known as Allied Irish Bank in the Republic of Ireland) is also supporting the project.
“Home to the most advanced equipment available in the sector, Carn Coldstore together with Derry Refrigerated Transport will provide businesses with much needed transport and cold storage facilities, particularly important to our expanding agri-food and retail industry,” said Michelle Harbinson, head of business acquisitions at First Trust Bank.
