CubeCold enters Spanish market with Frimercat acquisition

CubeCold has expanded its European footprint by acquiring Grupo Frimercat, a cold logistics provider based in Barcelona. The acquisition marks CubeCold’s entry into Spain and strengthens its temperature-controlled logistics network, which spans Benelux, the UK, and Italy with over 450,000 pallet spaces.

Frimercat manages more than 50,000 pallet positions across multiple sites and operates primarily from Mercabarna, Barcelona’s central food logistics hub. The company has more than 25 years of experience in frozen logistics and employs over 170 people.

According to CubeCold Chief Operating Officer Paul Jukes, “Integrating Grupo Frimercat into our network marks a key strategic step in CubeCold’s expansion into Spain. Not only are we increasing our storage and distribution capacity, but we are also enhancing our ability to provide efficient and high-value logistics services to our clients in a strategic country for CubeCold.”

Grupo Frimercat, which has a strong presence in Catalonia, will continue to operate under its current name. The company sees the move as an opportunity to improve efficiency and innovation while maintaining service levels.

“This move is a fantastic opportunity for Grupo Frimercat and our clients. Becoming part of CubeCold will allow us to drive innovation, enhance our services, and ensure even greater efficiency in our logistics operations,” said Jaime Blanqué Gil, Chairman of the Board at Grupo Frimercat.

Jordi Fabregat, Managing Director at Frimercat, confirmed that the company’s service model and culture would remain intact. “Our top priority is ensuring peace of mind for our clients. With CubeCold’s support, we will enhance our capabilities and strengthen our position in the Spanish cold storage market, significantly expanding our joint geographic footprint. We will continue to focus on operational excellence and continuous improvement of our services, while maintaining our corporate values and culture. Our customers now will have access to a pan-European cold storage network.”

The acquisition is part of CubeCold’s strategy to expand both organically and through acquisitions in key European markets.
