Emergent Cold LatAm acquires Friobox, plans expansion in Dominican Republic

Emergent Cold Latin America has acquired Friobox, a cold storage operator based in the Dominican Republic, as part of its strategy to expand temperature-controlled logistics services in the Caribbean region.

Founded in 2021, Friobox operates a 12,000-pallet position facility in northwest Santo Domingo, offering storage, cross-docking, and inventory management services. The founders — Antonio Azzariti, Frank Maiweg, and Thomas Pollehne — will remain with the company under Emergent Cold LatAm’s management.

Emergent Cold LatAm will immediately begin construction on a 7,200-pallet expansion of the facility, increasing total capacity to 19,200 pallet positions. The expansion is scheduled for completion by January 2027.

This marks the company’s second investment in the Dominican Republic. Its first was a greenfield project launched in 2023 within the Free Zone Park at the Caucedo Port in eastern Santo Domingo. Upon completion of the Friobox expansion, Emergent Cold LatAm’s total cold storage capacity in the country will exceed 27,000 pallet positions.

“We first met the Friobox team four years ago, before the facility was open,” said Neal Rider, CEO of Emergent Cold LatAm. “It’s great to see the successful realization of their vision, and I’m very happy for Friobox to join our growing Latin America network.”

“The Dominican Republic is an important market for us,” added Alain Eichmann, Managing Director for the Caribbean Region. “Besides the strong domestic economic trends, the island is a central logistics and export hub in the Caribbean. We will continue to grow with our customers and invest in the country.”
