Frigo Breda, a worldwide player in transport and Coldstore solutions for refrigerated and frozen cargo will establish itself per 1st June 2020 in the Port of Moerdijk. The new location will measure 5,8 hectares and have an own quay of 300 meters. Frigo Breda will realize a waterfront Coldstore with a capacity of 70.000 pallets and a new Headquarters. Port of Moerdijk will attract a serious player in this market which will support a stronger cluster of refrigerated and frozen cargo handling capacity.
On the new location Frigo Breda will store frozen and chilled products that can be shipped in or exported using all modalities: water, rail and road. The new Coldstore will have 8 large cells with 31 load-docks and a combined capacity of 70.000 pallets. Today Frigo Breda has 37.000 pallets capacity divided over 6 locations so naturally this means that the expansion in Moerdijk is of large significance. Besides the Coldstore Frigo Breda will establish their new headquarters in Moerdijk.
Border Inspection Point
In addition to the Coldstore a container yard will be created with sufficient reefer-plugs for cooling loaded reefer containers. Also, a new Border Inspection Point (BIP) will be created for the Dutch veterinary inspection body (NVWA) allowing import products like meat or fish to be inspected in Moerdijk arriving by container.
"The transport and logistics sector will face future challenges to make ever increasing transport-movements more efficient and environmentally friendly against so much needed lower CO2 and NOx emissions"
This is quoted by Managing Director Reinier van Elderen of Frigo Breda. He further explains why Frigo chooses for Moerdijk: "Our new facilities will have a large storage and stevedore capacity with direct access to the water guaranteeing short connections to the main-hubs of Rotterdam and Antwerp. Next to this we will have a rail connection which we can use to attract perishables from the whole of Europe and amongst others export again via shortsea and barge combined with Deepsea export again to the end-destination. By using more water and rail we limit the very traffic sensitive road-transport from- and to Rotterdam and Antwerp. We create a more reliable supply chain for our clients against a more environmentally friendly profile with lower emissions.
Strengthening the refrigerated and frozen cluster in Moerdijk
Port of Moerdijk Managing Director responds: "I am very proud that Frigo Breda - a large player in this field - is establishing itself in our Port. It's a next step in strengthening this cluster. Customers like VDH and Lidl are already handling large amounts of similar products and this is a well needed addition. Certainly due to the opportunities moving more by Short Sea, barge and rail. Due to this project we can speed up this modal shift.
