GCCA Reports 10% Capacity Growth in 2025 Global Top 25 Warehouse List

Global cold storage capacity among top providers grows to 7.3 billion ft³.

The Global Cold Chain Alliance (GCCA) has released its 2025 “Global Top 25 List,” highlighting the largest temperature-controlled warehouse and logistics providers among its members. The rankings are based on total reported cold storage capacity, with the Global Top 25 now operating 7.3 billion cubic feet (207 million cubic meters) of refrigerated space.

According to GCCA, its members collectively own or operate 8.16 billion cubic feet (231 million cubic meters) of temperature-controlled capacity, marking a more than 10% increase since 2024. The growth stems from mergers, acquisitions, and the completion of expansion projects across multiple regions. However, the association notes this increase does not necessarily reflect industry-wide growth.

Regional Growth Highlights

The North American Top 25 members reported a combined capacity of 5 billion cubic feet (141.5 million cubic meters), up by 629 million cubic feet since 2024. European Top 10 capacity rose by 263 million cubic feet (7.4 million cubic meters) to 1.43 billion cubic feet (40.6 million cubic meters), while Latin America’s Top 10 increased by 137 million cubic feet (3.9 million cubic meters) to 578 million cubic feet (16.4 million cubic meters).

Overall, the Global Top 25 list grew by 640 million cubic feet (18.1 million cubic meters). GCCA noted the highest absolute and percentage growth occurred in North America, with other regions also seeing new members and capacity increases.

“Even with the higher costs of capital, the growth in the industry across all regions in 2024 outpaced the prior two years. While the overall pace of acquisitive growth seemed to slow, the increase in capacity at the largest cold chain operations in the world continued. Investments in expansion projects and greenfield developments in all regions shows legacy operations as well as new market entrants are still optimistic about future demand in the sector,” said Adam Thocher, GCCA Senior Vice President, Global Programs & Insights.

GCCA represents over 1,500 temperature-controlled facilities and members in more than 92 countries. Its members provide services including cold storage, transport, blast freezing, processing, and export logistics.
