GCCF Launches First Cold Chain Institute in Europe

The Global Cold Chain Foundation (GCCF) has announced the launch of the first Cold Chain Institute in Europe. This educational program will host nearly 40 temperature-controlled logistics professionals from 10 countries across Europe, taking place from September 2 to 4, 2024, in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

Originally established nearly 60 years ago by the Global Cold Chain Foundation, the research and education branch of the Global Cold Chain Alliance (GCCA), the Cold Chain Institute has trained thousands of professionals in North America, Latin America, and Australia.

“Cold Chain Institute is a very comprehensive and hands-on training programme for attendees from every professional area in the cold chain sector,” said Julie Hanson, Europe Director of the Global Cold Chain Alliance. “It provides the Institute’s students with unique knowledge and tools to enhance their individual specialty while developing a 360-degree understanding of the temperature-sensitive industry. We are proud to bring this fantastic educational opportunity to cold chain professionals in Europe, supporting talent and skills development in our crucial and growing industry.”

The curriculum, developed and taught by active field experts, covers key areas of cold chain logistics management. It is designed for engineers, supervisors, managers in operations, administration, engineering, IT, construction, sales, marketing, and HR. The program spans three years, with each year's sessions delivered over three days, and concludes with a certificate recognizing skill advancement.

Joris Olbrechts, Director of Jodifrost and Jogrex and Chair of the GCCA European Logistics Council, commented, “I attended the Cold Chain Institute myself and was impressed by the quality of the courses and instructors. The Institute is an exclusive programme to learn directly from industry experts, but also with and from peers from various businesses and countries. One of the most valuable takeaways from this experience is the incredibly unique networking opportunities and relationships that can be built. I can only recommend this training programme to anyone involved in cold chain logistics who is eager to learn, develop their own skills and grow in their career.”

In 2024, the Cold Chain Institute received the Power of Associations Gold Award from the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE).
