HAVI Group adds first electric Vector eCool trailers in Portugal

HAVI Group has deployed its first two Carrier Transicold Vector eCool refrigeration systems in Portugal, following a successful pilot project. The move marks a significant step in the company’s cold chain electrification strategy. Carrier Transicold, part of Carrier Global Corporation, developed the fully electric system in collaboration with Addvolt and SAF-Holland.

The Vector eCool system is an autonomous, all-electric refrigeration unit for semi-trailers that operates without a factory-installed diesel engine. It combines energy regeneration during vehicle movement with onboard energy storage, allowing continuous refrigeration even when stationary or disconnected from external power sources.

According to HAVI, the adoption of this technology aims to improve operational efficiency, reduce maintenance requirements, and lower emissions and noise levels. The electric trailers will be used to transport temperature-sensitive goods between logistics hubs and restaurants.

“The delivery of the first two Vector eCool systems to the HAVI Group’s fleet marks a decisive step in the electrification of our cold chain, validated by a successful pilot in Portugal and now scalable across the group,” said Carlos Santos, Operations Director, HAVI Portugal. “This milestone was only possible thanks to the joint efforts of our partners Addvolt and Carrier Transicold.”

José António Gomes, Country Manager, Carrier Transicold Portugal, added: “The adoption of eCool technology demonstrates how innovation can redefine cold chain logistics, making electric refrigeration a practical reality for fleets ready to embrace the future.”
