Maersk Opens Largest Philippine Distribution Centre

A. P. Moller – Maersk (Maersk), through Maersk Contract Logistics Philippines, has officially inaugurated its largest distribution centre in the Philippines to date, the Maersk Optimus Distribution Center. Spanning a 10-hectare site in Calamba, Laguna, the state-of-the-art facility serves as a critical logistics hub for Southern Luzon, designed to support import and export activities across regions including Bicol and CALABARZON. The centre was opened in a ceremony attended by Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Department of Trade and Industry Secretary Cristina A. Roque.

Optimizing Logistics and Bridging Philippine Islands

The new centre emphasizes the importance of logistics in strengthening the Philippine economy and enhancing daily life, according to President Marcos. With the capacity to house 76,000 pallets and a 75-dock spread, the facility supports seamless freight management and operational efficiency. Equipped with a Fleet Operational Control Centre (FOCC), it enables real-time management of Maersk’s trucking fleet to optimize delivery and reduce operational costs. This technology, coupled with LEED-certification ambitions, reflects Maersk’s commitment to sustainable logistics by implementing energy-efficient practices, water conservation, and waste management strategies.

Strategic Location and Advanced Capabilities

Maersk Optimus is strategically positioned to boost supply chain efficiency for key industry sectors, including consumer goods, healthcare, technology, and automotive. The facility’s advanced warehouse operations include co-packing activities tailored to industry needs, with fast-moving consumer goods companies already benefitting from the increased capacity.

SP Tan, Head of Maersk Contract Logistics Philippines, highlighted that this new facility represents Maersk’s mission to deliver top-tier logistics services in alignment with customer needs. Its technology-driven design enhances supply chain planning, ultimately enabling smoother product movement to local consumers.

Economic Impact and Future Vision

Secretary Roque of the Department of Trade and Industry commended Maersk Optimus for its role in stimulating economic growth in Calabarzon and Southern Luzon. By accommodating increased domestic consumption and helping decongest Metro Manila, the centre strengthens the Philippines’ economic position, reducing logistics costs and fostering competitiveness.

With nearly 100 warehouses, domestic sea routes, air freight, and trucking services across the Philippines, Maersk continues to play a significant role in developing efficient and sustainable supply chains, contributing to the growth and resilience of the Philippine economy.

Maersk Optimus Distribution Center not only marks a major milestone in logistics for Southern Luzon but also reinforces Maersk’s commitment to empowering a more connected and competitive logistics sector in the Philippines.
