MSC Introduces iReefer for Real-Time Reefer Cargo Monitoring

MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company has launched iReefer, a new container monitoring system designed to provide real-time tracking and insights for temperature-controlled shipments. The system allows customers to monitor key parameters such as temperature, humidity, and location from anywhere in the world.

iReefer is available through myMSC, the company’s e-business platform, or via API integration for direct system connectivity. MSC offers three iReefer service packages:
  • iReefer Essential (free of charge) provides a shipment overview, journey logs, and data graphs.
  • iReefer Pro includes all Essential features plus unlimited downloads and GPS tracking.
  • iReefer Ultimate integrates directly with customers’ systems via API for seamless data flow.
The two premium packages will be available from 1 March 2025.

MSC, which transports over 1 million reefer containers annually, has equipped 210,000 reefers and 500 vessels with iReefer technology. The company aims to expand this coverage across its entire fleet.

“This exciting launch highlights MSC’s unique ability to combine forward-thinking digital solutions with personalized customer care. iReefer is designed with customers in mind: we fully understand their need to closely monitor and control cargo, to facilitate planning and ensure products are delivered in pristine condition. It builds on the already high levels of care we apply to reefer cargo and takes this support to the next level,” said Giuseppe Prudente, Chief Logistics Officer of MSC and President of MEDLOG.

By enabling real-time monitoring, enhanced security, regulatory compliance, and data-driven insights, iReefer aims to optimize cold chain logistics and reduce costs associated with cargo spoilage and damage. Customers can access the service via myMSC, with API integration launching alongside iReefer Ultimate in March 2025.
