New Carrier Transicold Supra 1150 Turns Timothy Taylor’s Truck into Pub Cellar on Wheels

New Carrier Transicold Supra 1150 Turns Timothy Taylor’s Truck into Pub Cellar on Wheels

Timothy Taylor’s brewery has taken delivery of a new 32-tonne DAF curtainside rigid truck mounted with a Carrier Transicold Supra 1150 unit, ensuring its beer stays at optimal temperature during transport. The new vehicle continues a 20-year working relationship with the brewery, built on Carrier Transicold’s ability to replicate the temperature and conditions of a pub cellar while on the road.

The new truck joins a 100% Carrier-cooled commercial vehicle fleet, including two existing Scania curtainsiders – an 18-tonner mounted with a Carrier Transicold Xarios 600 unit and a 26-tonner featuring another Supra 1150 unit – alongside four 13.6m trailers fitted with Carrier Transicold Vector 1550 units.

“We produce traditional, cask-conditioned beer, so it’s imperative it’s transported at exactly the right temperature – we effectively need to create a pub cellar on wheels,” said Paul Marklew, transport manager, Timothy Taylor’s. “External conditions can have such a huge impact on the beer inside the casks we have to be confident the refrigeration systems are up to the task. Once we’d experienced how Carrier’s products performed, we’ve not looked back.”

The ideal temperature range for transporting Timothy Taylor’s beer is between 10 and 12 degrees Celsius. Without Carrier Transicold’s equipment, the high external temperatures in the summer can adversely accelerate the second fermentation process, rupturing the casks and ruining the loads, whereas in the winter months the cold can create a chill haze on the beer affecting the clarity of the pint.

Ideally suited to Timothy Taylor’s requirements, the powerful Supra 1150 unit offers constant airflow – independent of engine speed – with rapid pull-down and accurate set point control, all vitally important when the curtains on the rigid are being repeatedly opened during delivery stops.

“We can always rely on the fridges to hit the temperature sweet spot inside the trucks and trailers quickly and efficiently. As an added bonus, all of our Carrier systems are also extremely fuel efficient, which helps us maintain a cost-effective delivery operation,” adds Marklew.

Each of the company’s Carrier Transicold products are backed by the comprehensive everCOLD fixed cost, full-service maintenance package, which includes annual temperature control testing and certification, full regulatory checks and access to Carrier Transicold’s oneCALL 24/7 incident management service.

All aftersales care is supplied by Carrier Transicold Manchester, part of Carrier’s nationwide service partner network, which has also built a solid relationship with Timothy Taylor’s over the past two decades.

The new truck is expected to stay in operation for seven years and will make nationwide deliveries five days a week from Keighley, Yorkshire, which has been home to the brewery since 1858.

An independent, family-owned business, Timothy Taylor’s brews a range of ales as well as operating 19 of its own pubs.
