NewCold advances construction of Sydney cold storage facility, opening in 2026

NewCold reports significant progress on its new cold storage facility under construction in Sydney, Australia, with the project on track to begin ramp-up by the end of 2026.

According to the company, installation of racking in the high-bay area is nearly 80% complete, all cranes are in place, and wall and roof cladding are advancing. Elsewhere on the site, dock installations, fire systems, and material-handling equipment are progressing, while the administrative office is also nearing completion. External slab and hardstand works are well advanced in preparation for the next construction phase.

The facility will have a storage capacity of 100,000 pallets and feature advanced automation technologies. It is designed to support food producers and retailers with more efficient temperature-controlled logistics and enhance cold chain resilience across New South Wales. The development complements NewCold’s existing presence in Melbourne and forms part of its broader expansion strategy on Australia’s East Coast.

Sustainability and innovation initiatives at the site include New South Wales’ first clad racking system in a freezer warehouse, a rooftop solar installation, modern fire protection and safety systems, and a large-scale Aboriginal artwork on the building’s southern façade.

NewCold also highlights the role of Karras, its temperature-controlled transport provider, in delivering integrated logistics services across the supply chain.
