NewCold Breaks Ground on Italy's Largest Temperature-Controlled Warehouse

NewCold, a global leader in advanced food logistics, has initiated the construction of the largest temperature-controlled warehouse in Central and Southern Italy. The 70 million euro project in Ferentino, Frosinone, is set to generate between 150 and 200 new jobs and will be operational by 2026.

The facility will be strategically located adjacent to Froneri’s Ferentino plant. This connection will streamline the storage of frozen products, delivering significant environmental benefits and supporting Froneri’s growth. Froneri is notable as the world’s second-largest packaged ice cream company and a major private-label ice cream producer.

“We are proud to integrate this structure into our Italian network,” stated Bram Hage, NewCold Founder and CEO. “The Ferentino warehouse will set new standards in automation and sustainability, strengthening Italy’s role in Europe’s food supply chain.”

Luca Quaresima, NewCold’s Country Manager for Italy, emphasized, “This project represents a turning point for logistics in Italy. Not only will it increase supply chain efficiency, but it will also solidify our position in the rapidly expanding cold chain market.”

Pietro Monaco, Froneri’s Global Head of Operations, extolled the partnership’s longevity and future potential. “The new hub in Ferentino is part of a long-standing international collaboration that looks to the future, with various projects on the horizon. It is a partnership that we are sure is destined to give us great satisfaction once more. Both in terms of improving our level of service and in terms of environmental impact.”

In its first phase, the facility will rise to 40 meters (130 feet) and accommodate 62,000 pallet spaces. The cutting-edge warehouse is designed to use 50% less energy than traditional facilities, leveraging renewable energy sources and automation technologies. This includes automated vehicle loading and unloading, and fully automated picking processes.

The Ferentino warehouse will join NewCold's facilities in Piacenza and Borgorose, expanding the company's Italian network. Upon completion of all phases, NewCold’s total capacity in Italy will reach 200,000 pallet positions.
