NewCold has achieved a significant milestone in constructing its first advanced automated warehouse in Canada, reaching a third of the high bay's total height. The upcoming 40-meter (131-foot) facility in Alberta is poised to transform cold storage and logistics, bolstering local food processors and ensuring food safety.
Representatives from NewCold and Fisher Construction Group celebrated the advancement on-site. Jonas Swarttouw, Executive VP Commercial and Chairman North America at NewCold, highlighted the facility's role in introducing innovative cold chain solutions and supporting South Alberta's food processors.
The Government of Alberta, contributing $2.1 million via an Innovation and Growth Fund grant, played a pivotal role in the project, alongside the Town of Coaldale’s strategic support.
“This project has been driven by partnerships,” noted Swarttouw, emphasizing collaborations within NewCold and with Alberta’s agencies.
Set to employ 50-100 people, the facility aims to create high-tech jobs and is on schedule to start operations by spring 2025.
