NewCold, the world’s third-largest provider of temperature-controlled food logistics, has marked two key milestones in the Netherlands. His Majesty King Willem-Alexander officially opened the company’s new Global Innovation and Support Center (GISC) in Breda, followed by the inauguration of Europe’s largest fully off-grid frozen warehouse in Dinteloord.
The GISC will function as NewCold’s global hub for technological development, operational oversight, and support across its international network. The center features a control room that monitors all 26 NewCold sites worldwide and houses 555 solar panels, energy-efficient systems, and a dedicated training center. Over 300 employees from 35 nationalities work at the facility, which was designed with a focus on sustainability and employee well-being.
“This center is more than just our new headquarters,” said Bram Hage, CEO of NewCold. “The GISC is our innovation engine—where advanced automation, AI, and robotics drive the transformation of refrigerated food storage and logistics.”
In Dinteloord, NewCold inaugurated its latest frozen warehouse, notable for its 43-meter height and fully automated systems. The site operates entirely off the public power grid, made possible by a collaboration with neighboring company Rijk Zwaan, which supplies an alternative low-emission energy source. This setup allowed operations to begin before the grid connection was complete.
“The warehouse is fully operated by a local team. Thanks to our automated systems, we can store 134,000 pallets on just 32,000 square meters using nine pallet cranes,” said Jonas Swarttouw, Managing Director Europe. “Traditional warehouses would require roughly three times as much space.”
NewCold was founded in 2012 and has been growing steadily. The openings in Breda and Dinteloord follow the royal couple’s visit to NewCold’s U.S. operations, where they inaugurated the company’s fourth warehouse in Atlanta in June last year. NewCold currently commissions five to seven new frozen warehouses annually.
