pfenning logistics and HFL celebrate symbolic groundbreaking ceremony for the freshcube osthessen

The pfenning logistics group, a family-run contract logistics service provider, marked the start of construction work on the freshcube osthessen in Bad Hersfeld with a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony. In addition to representatives of the pfenning logistics group and HFL Herbst Fresh Logistics, Thomas Fehling, the mayor of the district town of Bad Hersfeld, was also present.

The logistics property for fresh produce logistics will be built on a total area of almost 40,000 m². A total of 12,000 m² of this is for temperature-controlled, modern storage areas and an additional 1,100 m² for social rooms and office space. Under the umbrella of the freshcube osthessen, pfenning logistics offers a flexible warehousing concept for individual forms of use with the option of serving different temperature zones and ensuring a seamless cold chain. The targeted GDP certification (Good Distribution Practice) can ensure compliance with the highest quality standards in the handling of drugs and medicines along the supply chain, especially for customers in the pharmaceutical sector.

When building and operating its logistics properties, pfenning logistics always implements a comprehensive sustainability concept in order to reduce the CO2 emissions of the property and the logistics processes. The platinum certificate from the DGNB (German Sustainable Building Council) is also being sought for this project. In this way, the company contributes to the sustainability strategies of its customers and supports them in reducing CO2 emissions along the entire value chain. This is achieved in particular through the favorable infrastructural location in the logistics region of East Hesse. As a transport hub, Bad Hersfeld enables savings in empty kilometers, which have a positive effect on the customer's transport balance sheet. A photovoltaic system is also planned, which will generate climate-friendly electricity for the property.

Thomas Fehling, Mayor of the district town of Bad Hersfeld, confirms: "Due to the proximity to the motorway, there were some tricky tasks to be solved and external hurdles to be overcome, which we cleared out of the way together. With the project development of pfenning logistics and the resulting new jobs, we are now strengthening the region economically and maintaining the successful relationship with Herbstfrischelogistik. Promising concepts with an awareness of sustainability are welcome in Bad Hersfeld.”

Friedbert Herbst, Managing Director of HFL Herbst Fresh Logistics, emphasizes: "The partnership with the municipality and the mayor of Fehling plays an important role in the realization of the project. We look forward to further consolidating this in the future. Thanks to the pfenning logistics group, we can implement the highest quality standards in combination with the existing HFL know-how at the location. We are pleased to have reached another milestone with freshcube osthessen and our future company headquarters and to be able to continue to offer our customers the professional service they are accustomed to.”

Martin Königstein, Managing Director of pfenning logistics, adds: "pfenning logistics and HFL have created the framework for long-term joint growth in the region. The new freshcube in Bad Hersfeld is the result of our trusting partnership since 2019. We want to continue to achieve valuable synergy effects, especially in the area of pharmaceutical logistics and fresh food logistics.”

With the construction of the freshcube osthessen in Bad Hersfeld and the multicube osthessen in the neighboring municipality of Mecklar, pfenning logistics is pushing ahead with its nationwide expansion. With the new developments, the Heddesheim-based company is reacting to the increased volatility in consumer behavior, order peaks and shorter ordering times.
