SeaCube Launches Portable Cold Storage Service for Perishables

SeaCube has introduced SeaCube Cold Solutions, a new portable cold storage service aimed at businesses managing temperature-sensitive goods. The service provides refrigerated containers - available for rent or purchase - designed to support food businesses, grocers, distributors, and other sectors handling perishable products.

With what the company states is the largest fleet of refrigerated containers in the portable cold storage sector and a nationwide network, SeaCube offers storage solutions that can be deployed anywhere in the United States. The containers, known as reefers, are available in 20-foot (6.1-meter) and 40-foot (12.2-meter) sizes and can be used either grounded or on chassis, depending on operational needs.

SeaCube Cold Solutions is built on the company’s experience in refrigerated intermodal leasing and aims to meet rising demand for scalable and energy-efficient cold storage. Its containers maintain temperatures ranging from -20°F to 80°F (-29°C to 27°C), allowing for safe storage of meat, seafood, dairy, fruits, vegetables, and flowers.

"SeaCube’s vast fleet size and nationwide coverage allow us to offer unparalleled flexibility and peace of mind to our clients. We are proud to provide businesses with the ease of working with a single trusted company, no matter where they need their reefers," said Bob Sappio, CEO at SeaCube Containers.

The containers are USDA-compliant and built with insulated stainless steel and aluminum interiors. Aluminum T-floors allow for easy cleaning and enhanced hygiene, making them suitable for food-grade storage.

SeaCube highlights sustainability as part of the offering. The reefers run on electric power, providing a lower-emission alternative to diesel-powered units, while still maintaining consistent temperature control.

The service offers both short- and long-term rental options, as well as purchasing plans, enabling businesses to scale storage as demand fluctuates. This is intended to help companies avoid overcapacity or storage shortages during peak periods.

With this launch, SeaCube aims to address key cold storage challenges in the food supply chain by delivering adaptable solutions that reduce waste, preserve product quality, and support operational efficiency.
