Sunswap secures Australian funding for electric refrigeration

Sunswap has secured a commitment of up to AUD $10 million [approx. USD $6.5 million] from the Clean Energy Finance Corporation to support electric transport refrigeration in Australia.

The funding will support deployment of more than 100 Endurance units across Australian retail and logistics fleets. The units will be delivered through Protran Solutions, Sunswap’s Australian distribution partner.

Endurance is a fully electric refrigeration unit for trailer fleets. It integrates modular batteries, trailer-top solar charging and connected software into one purpose-built system.

In Australia, Endurance completed a three-day route of 1,671 km (approx. 1,038 miles) between Sydney and Brisbane without on-route charging, finishing with 62% battery remaining. Sunswap said this is roughly the distance from Amsterdam to Madrid.

Sunswap started 2026 with operations in the UK, France and the Netherlands before expanding into Chile, Australia and Spain. Endurance currently operates across fleets including Tesco, DFDS and Ocado in the UK, and Walmart Chile in South America.

“Transport refrigeration is critical to Australia's food and pharmaceutical supply chains. Supporting proven electric alternatives enables emissions reductions, improved air quality and lower operating costs for Australian businesses,” said Malcolm Thornton, CEFC Head of Growth Capital.
