The first Schmitz Cargobull swap box with an electric refrigeration unit on a Mercedes-Benz eActros goes to EDEKA

Schmitz Cargobull has extended its portfolio of self-developed refrigeration units by a new electrically driven unit that is manufactured for swap boxes on a user and project-related basis. This operates completely emission-free and is specially designed for use in distribution transport.

One of the first project partners is the EDEKA retail chain, which in recent days received a fully electric eActros with an electric refrigeration unit and swap box from Schmitz Cargobull for practical testing. The vehicle for distribution transport was handed over at the gasometer in Berlin-Schöneberg in the presence of representatives of Schmitz Cargobull, Mercedes-Benz Trucks and EDEKA as well as Rita Schwarzelühr-Sutter (Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety).Alongside EDEKA other customers are taking part in the electric mobility field testing of Mercedes-Benz Trucks.

“The ongoing discussion about driving bans on diesel vehicles in city centres and the growing need for electrically driven delivery vehicles for “the last mile” make it clear that the issue of electric mobility for commercial vehicles is of major importance and opens up opportunities. We seize this opportunity with our refrigeration unit. Through the joint testing with Mercedes-Benz Trucks we can gain valuable experience concerning the critical factor of shared truck / refrigeration unit energy management ”, says Boris Billich, CSO at Schmitz Cargobull.

The fully electric vehicle now delivered will be primarily used in food distribution transport. The W.KO COOL swap box from Schmitz Cargobull has an optimised insulation and strength. Sturdy steel connecting profiles bonded with the panels make for a robust body. The reinforced bulkhead is designed to accommodate the refrigeration unit.

Schmitz Cargobull offers optimised ecological transport and logistics concepts and thus makes a significant contribution to CO2 reduction.
