Ti Cold and Karis Cold have started construction on a new cold storage facility in Darien, McIntosh County, Georgia, in partnership with PermaCold Logistics. The $60 million project is expected to create 50 jobs upon completion of its first phase.
The facility is being built at Tidewaters Industrial Park, a Georgia Ready for Accelerated Development (GRAD) site. The complex will feature a 50-foot clear height and a convertible design capable of maintaining temperatures from 40°F to -10°F (4.4°C to -23.3°C). It will also include an environmentally friendly refrigeration system and over 30,000 pallet positions using structural steel racks.
Ti Cold provides cold storage construction and development services such as design, engineering, site planning, and operational consulting. The company has previously completed projects in Georgia.
Senior Regional Project Manager Dorie Bacon from the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) worked on the project alongside the McIntosh County Industrial Development Authority, Georgia Ports Authority, Georgia EMC, and Georgia Power.
“This groundbreaking marks a transformational moment for McIntosh County,” said Kate Pontello Karwacki, Chairwoman of the McIntosh County Board of Commissioners. “Ti Cold and Karis Cold’s investment in our community is a strong endorsement of the assets we offer from our strategic location along the I-95 corridor and proximity to the Ports to the welcoming business climate we’re committed to fostering.”
