ECOOLTEC Grosskopf GmbH has secured a notable new customer with Transgourmet Germany, a leading food wholesaler, which has integrated the innovative TM182 transport refrigeration unit into its fleet. This move aligns with Transgourmet’s ambitious sustainability strategy, which aims to reduce CO2 emissions per tonne of delivered goods by at least 21% by 2026, compared to 2021 levels.
Transgourmet, known for its pioneering approach to sustainable logistics, has been utilizing climate-neutral methods since October 2022. The addition of the electrically powered TM182 transport refrigeration unit supports this goal by exclusively using natural refrigerants such as CO2 (R744) and propene (R1270), both of which have minimal global warming potential. Unlike traditional fluorinated refrigerants, which have a GWP of approximately 2,000, these natural refrigerants are environmentally friendly, offering significant reductions in CO2 emissions. The electric system produces no local emissions when operating in battery mode and up to 98% fewer emissions when powered by an alternator, compared to conventional diesel refrigeration units.
Sven Sauerwein, Head of Logistics Services at Transgourmet Germany, emphasized the company's commitment to sustainability, stating, “Our aim is to be the most sustainable company in the food wholesale segment. By integrating ECOOLTEC’s innovative technology, we can provide valuable feedback and contribute to the evolution of sustainable transport refrigeration.”
The TM182 unit is particularly well-suited for distribution operations, where Transgourmet delivers to an average of twelve stops per tour. The system’s ability to rapidly restore target temperatures after each delivery ensures the integrity of perishable goods, even under demanding conditions.
Henning Altebäumer, CEO of ECOOLTEC, highlighted the growing importance of eco-friendly refrigeration, saying, “The adoption of ECOOLTEC’s technology by a market leader like Transgourmet demonstrates the industry's increasing awareness of the need for sustainable solutions. As F-gas regulations tighten across the EU, companies are recognizing the significant potential for CO2 savings in transport refrigeration.”
In addition to sustainability, ECOOLTEC’s compact and energy-efficient systems offer fleets powerful refrigeration capabilities with reduced energy consumption. The TM182 system requires up to 80% less energy than conventional diesel-powered units, ensuring a greener and more efficient solution for modern logistics.
