At Perifem Day, EXKAL received the Innovation Award in the Energy – Refrigeration category for its solution to give a second life to refrigeration units, furniture and installations using high-GWP refrigerants.
Building on the capabilities offered by Honeywell’s new R-471 refrigerant, Exkal has developed and is commercializing a unique solution to give a second life to installations, furniture and installations that use high-GWP fluorinated refrigerants.
R-471 is a safe A1 refrigerant with a very low GWP<150 which, when combined with a solution to cover open furniture with doors or replace it with new cabinets with doors, can give these components a second life in stores.
Advantages:
- R-471 is the first and only non-flammable, non-toxic A1 class refrigerant with a GWP < 150, which makes it ideal for ensuring facility safety and environmental protection.
- This solution is sustainable and contributes to the development of a circular economy. It gives a second life to existing installations and liquid installations, which can be reused in combination with modernized furniture with doors or new closed furniture. As a result, investment costs can be significantly reduced. The savings can be used to renovate existing stores or build new ones.
- This solution significantly reduces the consumption of both elements: refrigerated furniture (by more than 80%) and installation (estimated by more than 25%).
Combined with the fact that R-471 has a GWP of <150, this solution is fully compliant with the European 30-30-30 strategy and reduces direct and indirect emissions by more than 90%.
To sum up, this innovation from Exkal can significantly reduce energy consumption, limit waste, giving a second life to objects (and therefore achieve significant savings while protecting the environment) and ensure maximum plant safety.
