Fuji Eco Cycle Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Fujitsu General, has recycled a cumulative total of 10 million home appliances in Japan as of July 16, 2025. The company, which handles recycling operations for the Fujitsu General Group, has recovered approximately 165,000 tons of iron, 12,000 tons of copper, and 5,000 tons of aluminum since its founding in April 2001.
Fuji Eco Cycle combines manual disassembly with mechanical crushing and sorting to achieve high recycling efficiency. Fine components and composite materials that are difficult to separate mechanically are sorted manually, allowing for the extraction of high-purity copper wires and iron components from motors and compressors.
The company was the first in the industry to adopt the “nitrogen displacement method” for refrigerator recycling. This technology lowers the oxygen concentration inside refrigerators to reduce the risk of dust explosions during crushing, while safely recovering fluorocarbon gas from insulation materials.
In fiscal year 2023, Fuji Eco Cycle introduced a wet sorting apparatus to improve plastic recycling. As a result, the recovery rate of polypropylene (PP) from mixed plastics increased from 21.9% in FY2021 to 56.0% in FY2024.
In FY2024, the company achieved the following recycling rates for specified home appliances: air conditioners (96%), CRT televisions (75%), LCD/plasma televisions (86%), refrigerators/freezers (78%), and washing machines/clothes dryers (97%).
Fuji Eco Cycle stated that it will continue to develop and implement advanced recycling technologies to recover iron, copper, aluminum, and plastics at high purity levels.
