U.S. Sees Significant Growth in Central Air Conditioners and Air-Source Heat Pumps Shipments in June 2024

In June 2024, the United States experienced a remarkable increase in the shipment of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps. The total number of units shipped reached 1,080,817, which represents a 10.4% increase compared to the 978,661 units shipped in June 2023.

Breaking down the numbers, shipments of central air conditioners alone rose by 8.2%, totaling 647,901 units. This is a notable increase from the 598,766 units shipped during the same month in the previous year. Air-source heat pumps saw an even more substantial rise, with shipments increasing by 14.0% to 432,916 units, compared to 379,895 units in June 2023.

However, when looking at the year-to-date figures, the combined shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps saw a slight decline of 0.4%. By June 2024, the total number of units shipped was 4,716,531, a small decrease from the 4,735,684 units shipped during the first half of 2023.

For central air conditioners, the year-to-date shipments showed a minor increase of 0.3%, amounting to 2,719,361 units compared to 2,712,457 units in the same period last year. In contrast, air-source heat pumps saw a slight decrease in year-to-date shipments, with a 1.3% drop to 1,997,170 units, down from 2,023,227 units during the same period in 2023.

Overall, while the month of June saw robust growth in both central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps shipments, the year-to-date figures indicate a mixed trend, with a slight decline in the combined total mainly due to the reduction in air-source heat pump shipments.
