AREA and World Refrigeration Day signed a Memorandum of Understanding during the 21st European Conference on the Latest Technologies in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, organized by Centro Studi Galileo in Milan. The agreement formalizes cooperation to advance public awareness, education, sustainability, and inclusion in the refrigeration and air conditioning sector.
The memorandum was signed by Stephen Gill, Founder and Secretariat of World Refrigeration Day, and Coen van de Sande, President of AREA. The signing took place in the presence of Marco Buoni, Director of Centro Studi Galileo; Madi Sakande, President of the Union of Associations of African Actors in Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning; Ina Colombo, President of the International Network of Women in Cooling; and Yosr Allouche, Director General of the International Institute of Refrigeration.
The agreement outlines joint actions in education and training, environmental collaboration, and public campaigns to highlight the role of cooling in quality of life and ecological transition. Both organizations aim to inspire interest in STEM among youth through outreach initiatives, including school activities and competitions.
The memorandum includes commitments to increase gender inclusion and support underrepresented minorities in the sector. Specific areas of cooperation cover education and training, public outreach, information exchange, campaigns, diversity initiatives, and joint representation efforts.
Both parties emphasized promoting the benefits of cooling technologies to the general public and recognizing the contributions of professionals in the field.
