ASHRAE has published its 2025–2028 Strategic Plan, outlining key goals and initiatives aimed at advancing healthy, sustainable and resilient buildings worldwide. The plan emphasizes leadership in indoor environmental quality (IEQ), decarbonization, and workforce development across the built environment sector.
The strategy is structured around three main objectives: leading globally in IEQ and decarbonization through standards and technical resources; delivering targeted stakeholder engagement to support the HVAC&R workforce; and broadening access to ASHRAE’s offerings by reducing structural and communication barriers.
According to the plan, ASHRAE will focus on four strategic initiatives. These include accelerating standards and technical guidance for healthier, low-emission and climate-resilient communities; expanding education and training to close the global skills gap; enhancing organizational agility through digital tools and communications; and promoting emerging technologies such as AI and smart building systems.
Key enablers of the plan include rigorous technical research, the use of artificial intelligence for improved decision-making, and collaboration through ASHRAE’s international member network.
“Our 2025–2028 Strategic Plan is about advancing buildings that truly support human well-being,” said ASHRAE President Bill McQuade, P.E., CDP, Fellow ASHRAE, LEED AP. “This plan ensures that ASHRAE’s work translates into real-world benefits which include cleaner air, safer indoor spaces, and communities that are better equipped to thrive in a changing climate.”
ASHRAE has already begun implementing the plan and will issue regular updates to track progress toward its stated goals.
