Axiom Cloud receives U.S. patent for AI-based refrigerant leak detection

Axiom Cloud has secured a U.S. patent for its software-based method of detecting refrigerant leaks in commercial refrigeration systems, the company announced. The patented technology enables leak detection in facilities with or without receiver level sensors or refrigerant gas sensors, targeting applications in grocery retail and cold storage.

The patent covers Axiom’s AI-native system, which does not require the installation of new hardware. This allows large-scale deployment across multiple sites, supporting customers facing increased compliance demands due to new EPA and state regulations in 2025 that mandate automated leak detection.

According to Axiom, its algorithms are trained on more than 1,200 site-years of refrigeration data and over 80,000 manually verified anomalies. The AI estimates leak rates in pounds per day, enabling customers to prioritize and group repairs. In performance comparisons, the system has shown earlier and more accurate leak detection than other software and hardware solutions.

“This IP validates the uniqueness of our AI-driven approach to detect refrigerant leaks, whether or not certain sensors are already in place,” said Amrit Robbins, CEO and Co-Founder of Axiom Cloud.

The company states that its platform supports operations across hundreds of facilities nationwide and contributes to predictive maintenance and energy optimization amid ongoing technician shortages.
