Carrier Expands i-Vu Building Automation System with New Connected Device

Carrier has released its latest i-Vu Express building automation device. The new connected device comes pre-installed with i-Vu Express v8.5 software and can receive automatic software updates. Packed with features, the i-Vu Express building automation system provides a 360 degree view of a building’s entire operation allowing operators to maintain comfort for occupants, optimize energy usage and resolve problems faster.

i-Vu Express joins the family of flexible, scalable i-Vu solutions including i-Vu Cloud, a cloud-hosted, subscription-based offering, and i-Vu Pro, an on-premises, software-only offering installed on a customer-supplied building automation server to support unlimited i-Vu controllers. Like i-Vu Pro, i-Vu Express runs on-premises, but the software is pre-loaded on a compact web device for easy installation. It supports up to 750 i-Vu controllers.

The new i-Vu Express device connects to the internet and uses a containerized Linux operating system, which enables automatic software updates for enhanced security of i-Vu and the device operating system. Updates are automatically pushed to subscribed i-Vu devices for users to install them at their convenience.

“Automatic software updates are a game changer for our customers,” said Mark Jones, Business Manager, Commercial HVAC Controls, Carrier. “Customers can now receive security updates and updates for their i-Vu Express building automation system without making a service call.”

The i-Vu building automation system is a user-friendly system, allowing facilities staff to manage the HVAC equipment in their building from anywhere in the world using any web-enabled device. Intuitive, graphical tools allow them to configure schedules, setpoints, trends, alarms and reports, helping them lower operating costs and provide greater comfort for occupants.

The latest i-Vu Express v8.5 software includes additional features:

  • Support for Scalable Vector Graphic (SVG) floorplans;
  • BACnet revision 19 compliance;
  • A new operator information report for security;
  • Staged firmware downloads for more efficient controller driver updates;
  • A new Autopilot add-on that allows users to configure slideshows of their i-Vu system graphics; and
  • Message Queueing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) protocol support for seamless integration to Carrier’s Abound IoT platform.
