Castel, an Italian manufacturer of refrigeration and air conditioning components, has obtained Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) for its ball valves and solenoid valves. The certification marks a step forward in the company's sustainability strategy.
To secure the EPDs, Castel conducted a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of both product lines, examining their environmental impact from production through to use and end-of-life. The resulting declarations meet the ISO 14025 standard for Type III environmental declarations.
Unlike standard LCAs, EPDs are independently verified and published through an international Program Operator, ensuring data transparency and comparability. Castel selected the EPD International System and published its declarations on the environdec.com portal.
The certification process included third-party auditing and external critical review of the LCA studies. According to the company, the effort reflects its long-term commitment to environmental responsibility in product development.
For customers and partners, the EPDs provide certified environmental data that can support sustainability-focused projects and green certification efforts.
